What to expect during carpet installation
It’s carpet installation day! Make plans to be home this day to answer any questions or help solve issues that arise for your installers. In addition to keeping kids and pets away from the installation area, you will need to designate an area for your carpet installers to keep tools such as carpet tack strips, carpet cutters, knee kickers, carpet stretchers, carpet staplers, and more. Carpet can be glued down or stretched-in, and your crew can recommend the best carpet installation method that will produce long-term performance for the specific conditions of your household.
Before Installation
Make sure to complete your pre-carpet installation checklist! In the rooms that are receiving new carpet, you will first need to remove all furnishings from the room, closets, and walls. Since new carpet cannot be installed over existing flooring, the old flooring will need to be pulled up and disposed of. New carpet installation requirements include a completely level subfloor, so any imperfections will need to be fixed or leveled ahead of time. New carpet rolls will need to acclimate in your rooms for at least 24 hours before installation.
After Installation
Once your carpet installation is complete, now is the time to walk through with your installers and ask any common carpet installation questions that you may have. As far as how long do you wait before walking on new carpet, it will be ready for light foot traffic without shoes on after glue has adhere for 24 to 72 hours. Wait at least 48 hours to 72 hours before bringing furniture back into the room. When you vacuum your new carpet for the first few months, you will most likely see some shedding of loose fibers which is extremely common.
